Payroll Processing Times- 2-day vs 4-day

Plan ahead so that your payroll is always processed on time.

Payroll Processing Times

Your First Payroll- 4-day payroll processing

If we're paying your employees through direct deposit, we'll need to run your payroll 4 business days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) prior to your employee payday due to the standard Automated Clearing House (ACH) processing time. This will ensure that your employees will get paid on time.

Example timeline if your employees are paid on Friday:

Monday- 5 Days Prior to Pay Day: Payroll must be processed by 1 pm MT
Tuesday- 4 Days Prior to Pay Day: Funds are debited from company's bank account
Wednesday- 3 Days Prior to Pay Day: Funds are collected and processed by the bank.
Thursday- 2 Days Prior to Pay Day: Payments to employees are initiated
Friday- Pay Day: Funds are deposited into the employee's bank account in the morning.

After First Payroll- 2-day payroll processing

After we run your first payroll, we will attempt to transition your processing time from 4-day to 2-day payroll processing (excluding weekends and bank holidays).  This will allow you to have a tighter control of cash and more time to budget to review your payroll hours and correct any issues.

In order to switch your processing time, we will:

  • Connect your bank account to our payroll software using the instant bank verification feature (IBV). This feature will validate that you have enough funds to process payroll.
    • We require a buffer in your account to keep 2-day payroll active. If your account frequently does not have this buffer available, your account may be moved from 2-day to 4-day processing.

  • Submit your last three (3) months bank statements to be reviewed by our payroll compliance team.
    • If your account has excessive NSF fees, your account will not be approved for 2-day payroll processing.
    • If the company signatory has had a bankruptcy in the last ten (10) years, you will not be approved for 2-day payroll processing.
    • Additionally, if we are able to get 2 day processing approved and your account is overdrawn due to payroll, you may be moved back to a 4-day processing time.
Once we get your 2-day payroll processing time approved, we'll need to run your payroll 2 business days (excluding weekends and bank holidays) prior to your employee payday due to the standard Automated Clearing House (ACH) processing time. This will ensure that your employees will get paid on time.

Example timeline if your employees are paid on Friday:

Wednesday- 2 Days Prior to Pay Day: Payroll must be processed by 1 pm MT
Thursday- 1 Day Prior to Pay Day: Funds are debited from company's bank account. Funds are collected and processed by the bank. Payments to employees are initiated
Friday- Pay Day: Funds are deposited into the employee's bank account in the morning.

*Please note Contractors will always be paid in 4-business days.

What happens if your payroll falls on a weekend or a holiday?

We will always process the payroll early if your payroll falls on a weekend or Holiday.

For example, if your payroll is due on Saturday, we will process it to deliver funds to your employees by Friday.
